Sigh... Another 7 months... I really liked book 1, _All Systems Red_.

To be honest, I think Tor is handling the release of _Artificial
Condition_ rather sleazily. I had pre-ordered it months ago, at $3.99
(same price as book 1) for a January release. Given the success of
the first one, Tor evidently decided to reposition it as a full-price
item (they are 150-160 page novellas), withdrew it from release
(canceling all pre-orders) and a couple of months later rescheduled
it for May at a $9.99 price (ebook, hardcover is $16.99).

I am perturbed that Tor treats its readers who are willing to
pre-order its books so cavalierly. I thought we had had a deal. I
re-pre-ordered it at $9.99, but I'm not happy about it.

Is it too late to insist on your rights, or tweet to the President,
or something? I agree that a deal is a deal for a handful of bits.

Maybe this is in some way an enhanced e-book. Spell-checked, say.
Or maybe the author wasn't securely contracted, but that seems
unlikely.

"I know people who keep an eye out for asexual and/or a-romantic characters."

Isn't that a thing for one of your "young people"? Mikayla maybe?

Yes but once I began paying attention, I discovered I had inadvertently
overlooked a fair number of people.

To be fair, they can be rather easy to miss.
