One weird trick - the one food not to eat in order to make America great again!

I was looking for a certain type of quote, and the closest I could find to it was this:

A nation of spaghetti-eaters cannot restore Roman civilization!
- Benito Mussolini

I received renewed inspiration to seek this out given the news of the communique following Trump's summit with Putin.

Remember Vladimir Putin? The fellow who invaded a portion of Georgia because people of Russian descent there were allegedly persecuted?

Of course, it being a foreign word, "Sudetenland" may be hard to spell.

I see, though, that Trump is accused of being treasonous because he failed to
confront Putin over meddling in the last American election.

The meddling that helped make Trump President, but which he has claimed is just a
hoax dreamed up by his political opponents.

I mean, really. That's accusing Trump of treason for being Trump. Surely his
critics can come up with something better than that.

Meuller did manage to avoid indicting any of the Russian operatives
for hacking Republican candidates. I imagine it took quite a lot of
effort to accomplish that.

Clinton lost because she was a worse candidate than Trump. It really
is that simple.

I think that Clinton would have made a good president, but she always
was a lousy campaigner. She should never have lost to Obama, either.

that Clinton would have made a good president,
Given her utter, completely incompetence at handling classified
information, and willingness to participate in coverups when it is
compromised, I disagree.

Ah, you've evidence for your assertion, other than the donald then?
The FBI seems to disagree with you.

Ah, you've evidence for your assertion, other than the donald

Comey's testimony in front of Congress, in which he explained that
he didn't feel he could prosecute her because the crimes he could
prove required intent, and she was too stupid to understand what
she was doing was illegal.

And, of course the massive coverup, since the 100+ messages sent
to her private server with classified information involved at
least 300 felonies that he, personally, was required to
investigate, mitigate and prosecute.

The director didn't, when he was under oath.

But then, you say outrageous shit just to be you.
WE've discussed this before, and the only answer clintonistas ever
have is to put their fingers in their ears, stamp their feet and
scream "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"

None of this is obscure or compliated. It was, in fact, national
and international news at the time, and has been discussed several
times here since. You are, apparently, literally hallucinating a
world in which this did not happen, in your inability to accpet
that Hillary Clinton is unfit to be a dogcatcher, much less hold a
national office of any kind. This is typical of her cult
following.

That depends on how you define losing. If one uses the standard that you're never
defeated until you give up, why, then he never loses!

Comey's testimony in front of Congress, in which he explained
that he didn't feel he could prosecute her because the crimes
he could prove required intent, and she was too stupid to
understand what she was doing was illegal.
Let's see the actual quotes...
The failure to handle classified material correctly was
investigated, and once the prosecutor had all the facts, decided
not to prosecute.
The reason given (which many don't actually believe, but I do) that
Clinton was too incompetent to be able to forumate the necessary
criminal intent.
They're allowed to do that. There's this thing called
'prosecutorial discretion' which Terry is ignoring.
And it does not univerally apply in matters of national security,
which Petey lies about (having had that explained ot him before).
It is plausible that Clinton was just too stupid to have a criminal
intent, and that the FBI legitimately felt they couldn't prove any
of the crimes on her part that don't require intent. But the people
who sent over a hundred emails containing classfied information a)
removed that information from the secure systems on which it was
stored, a felony, b) removed the notices that it was classified,
also a felony, and c) sent information they knew to be classified
through a non-secure channel (the internet), also a felony. And
there were required to demonstrate that they knew this was all
criminal before they were given access to any classified
information at all. That is how it is done.

In addition, the FBI agents who went through those tens of
thousands of emails had to have security clearances of their own,
and as such, they do *not* have any discretion at all in how they
respond to finding out about such compromises. They are required to
investigate, and they are required to take whatever steps are
necessary to contain the breach. It is a crime for them not to. So
each message represents another felony on the part of the agent
reviewing the message, and another on Comey's part since he has the
same responsibilities once he learns of the breach.

And yet, there was no investigation whatsoever, no prosecutions,
nothing. Massive coverup, to protect Clinton, and probably Obama,
who almost certianly appointed the people who committed these
crimes.

Youv'e had this explained to you, more than once, before. At this
poitn, you're simply lying, or literally hallucinating. Both are
behavior you have exhibited many times in the past.

I'll accept that Clinton doesn't belong in prison because she's too
stupid and incompetent to be capable of committing the crimes. But
that same stupdity and incompetence makes her dangerously unfit to
serve the public in any capacity.

And you know it.

Comey's testimony in front of Congress, in which he explained that
he didn't feel he could prosecute her because the crimes he could
prove required intent, and she was too stupid to understand what
she was doing was illegal.
I think you're not the only person who has *characterized* what he said in that
manner.

Google results on this are saturated with results about more recent events -
calls by Republicans to prosecute Comey as well as Hillary Clinton. Despite a
finding that his decision not to prosecute her was sound.

In one case, the classified information not handled securely... was information
taken from a newspaper. When information that is classified gets an unauthorized
release, it doesn't automatically become declassified - some illustrations of
that principle took place around the time of the Snowden matter. But obviously
one doesn't have to take precautions to prevent stuff in the newspapers from
being read.

Criteria for deciding whether to prosecute a potential violation of the law
involve things like how simialr cases were handled in the past.

I hate to break it to you, but from World War II on, a lot of top generals just
couldn't be bothered with the inconvenience of properly following procedures for
communicating about classified matters.

There was Obama's BlackBerry - and Trump, too, uses an ordinary cell phone
rather than the awkward but supposedly secure thing the NSA managed to supply
him with.

Choosing someone to make an example of for rampant laziness that ought to be
stopped... should not be done for political reasons. That is the interpretation
of Comey's decision that I have - he, appropriately, took into account the
potential political consequences of his actions, but not in order to corruptly
impose a political result, but instead to avoid doing so.

Here we are:

"In looking back at our investigations into mishandling or removal of classified
information, we cannot find a case that would support bringing criminal charges
on these facts. All the cases prosecuted involved some combination of: clearly
intentional and willful mishandling of classified information; or vast
quantities of materials exposed in such a way as to support an inference of
intentional misconduct; or indications of disloyalty to the United States; or
efforts to obstruct justice. We do not see those things here.

To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who
engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those
individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions. But that
is not what we are deciding now."

And here's the cite:

https://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/statement-by-fbi-director-james-b-comey-on-the-investigation-of-secretary-hillary-clinton2019s-use-of-a-personal-e-mail-system

He didn't say she was stupid in so many words; your interpretation is only one
possible one.

I sort of interpreted his words as he didn't want to be picking on her when
everyone else was doing it.

You are, once again, in your ignorance and stupidity, dodging the
real issue.

The issue isn't whether or not Clinton should have been prosecuted.
As I've said many times, I accept that Comey felt that he couldn't
prove any crimes that did not require intent (and there are some,
where national security laws are concerned), and that Clinton was
incapable of formulating the criminal intent.

I've never dispuated that.

(And it would have been politically disasterous to set a precedent
whereby the winner of a presidential election got to put the loser
in prison.)

The issue, which you refuse to address, is the massive coverup of
hundreds of felonies committed by Clinton or Obama appointees in
*sending* those messages. For which, there is *no* discretion as to
whether or not to investigate. It is a crime for the FBI agents,
personally and individually, as part of accepting their security
clearance, to *not* investigate those violations once they become
aware of them (and for Comey, too, once he became aware of them).

You can talk about Clinton's sins till the cows come home, but
that's not what I'm talking about. And I'll keep reminding you of
that until you address *that* issue, or STFU.

Clinton's sin wasn't criminality, it was incompetence. She
conclusively proved, beyond any possible doubt, that she can't be
trusted with classified information, and a US President *cannot* do
their job without having access to classified information. Some of
what was compromised was Top Secret, the compromise of which does
"grievous and irreparable harm to the United States." She is so
unqialified for the office of President she is dangerous to the
country.

There are so many ways in which I differ from Trump, but nevertheless feel that some of the criticism is ridiculous, that I am repeated reminded of Epictetus "If a man has reported to you, that a certain person speaks ill of you, do not make any defense (answer) to what has been told you: but reply, The man did not know the rest of my faults, for he would not have mentioned these only."

Strangely enough, I feel that way too at times.

Some of the things he has said about women were enough to lead me to despise
him.

The claim that he is indebted to people who may be working for Russia seem to be
well-founded in fact, and surely that should be regarded as a highly serious
matter.

But I suppose the news media cannot just keep repeating themselves, they have to
keep finding something different - and sometimes they seem to be really
reaching.

This makes them look biased, leading to the genuine issues being dismissed.

But, hey, their business is selling advertising, not informing the public.

We seem to be covering the question of whether reflexive hucksterish flattery amounts to treason here (after a fashion) so I'll just add that some group in London seem to think that flying a blimp which caricatures Trump as baby (web search finds picture at https://news.sky.com/story/trump-angry-baby-blimp-is-going-to-america-11438499) amounts to criticism. I mention this partly so that I can comment that this has both the strengths and weaknesses of Lewis Carroll's proposed rule of inference "What I tell you three times is true"

Benito Mussolini is not known as a food-lover. Chronic stomach
ulcers made it hard for him to eat much more than fruit and warm milk
That's what his doctors believed, which had all but incapacitated
Mussolini by 1940. Luckily, Hitler sent Dr. Georg Zachariae to care
for him in 1943 and Mussolini quickly recovered. He went to his grave
a healthy man.

I'm not at all happy with how cozy he is with Russia.

Having murdered people in Britain, having committed aggression against two
democratic nations, Russia should be regarded as an enemy.

However, during the Cold War, we had to live with Communist Russia. We couldn't
march in and perform regime change on it - and the same is true with Russia
today.

The news media doesn't call it treason every time a world leader visits China,
and talks about trade matters and so on while avoiding the contentious territory
of human rights. Pragmatically, after all, that would only complicate matters,
and not achieve any change from China.

Maybe this should not be the standard used with Russia, as the situation is more
serious.

But what I object to is the claim that Trump is being treasonous specifically
because he did not raise the findings of a legal investigation that Russia did
tamper with the U.S. elections. Given that Trump has expressed the opinion that
no such thing even happened, that it's all a partisan attack on him, one can
hardly expect him to confront a foreign leader over what he believes to be a
fantasy!

It should be easy enough to make a case against Trump. But this is starting from
the wrong end.

Although I would consider myself an implacable opponent of Trump, I view this
particular line of attack as merely silly.

Of course, I should perhaps note that my view on the inadvisability of this
applies simply to its persuasive effectiveness as rhetoric in criticism of
Trump.

As far as legal proceedings, such as impeachment, are concerned - go right
ahead. After all, they got Al Capone on tax evasion.

If that were true, Mueller would have done so by now, several times
over.

He hasn't.

But he has ignored that the same people he idicted for hacking
Democrat campaigns also hacked Republican campaigns, regardless of
the evidence.

So I guess, technically, it might be easy to make a case against
Trump, but nobody is actually trying. Which tells you a good deal
more about his critics than it does about him. And none of it is
complimentary regarding their intelligence, honesty or intentions.

Perhaps Donald Trump is not up to anything sinister.

His friendly meeting with Putin is just more theater, to further motivate Europe
to do its own part in NATO instead of relying on the Americans to do everything.

If so, Canada should be responding like Europe to this encouragement.

We have already passed legislation to increase defense spending a little bit.

We can do better.

Developing our own strategic nuclear deterrent, so that we wouldn't need to rely on the United States, is at least within the realm of existing technology.

An adequatre response to Trump, however, sadly, would require additional research and development.

His friendly meeting with Putin is just more theater, to
further motivate Europe to do its own part in NATO instead
of relying on the Americans to do everything.
And perhaps because he understands that if you want someone
to change their behavior, you ahve to engage with them, not
ignore them.
Or perhaps he's just bought and paid for.
Or perhaps you're mentally ill and literally hallucinating a
world in which HIllary Clinton isn't so incompetent she needs
to be put in a home for her own safety.
I don't give a damn about Clinton.
You don't give a damn about anything other than the taste of my

If so, Canada should be responding like Europe to this
encouragement.
We have already passed legislation to increase defense
spending a little bit.
It should be as high a percentage of GDP as the US, unless
you're willing to publicly admit your country is a parasite
that needs Big, Strong US to protect it.
Ummmmmmm... ...no.
Ummmmmmm... ...yes.
The US is spending money on a military far beyond what is
necessary for defending itself and being a member of NATO.
Only because our "allies" are a bunch of parasites that refuse
to spend enough on their own defense.
Ummmm... ...no.
Ummmmmmm... ...yes.

Perhaps Donald Trump is not up to anything sinister.
Oh, I'm sure he's up to many sinister things. That's not
relevant. What he's not up to is anything illegal.
So what is it like... ...omniscience?

You're wrong about that. You didn't read Alan Baker's words carefully enough.

It's *partly* because of the reason you cite. But it's also because the U.S.
wants to do more than defend itself and NATO members. It also wants to throw its
influence around in the world in horrible ways. Such as protecting (gasp) Israel
from being invaded by its neighbors, when clearly Israel is so mean to those
poor Palestinians that the Jews ought to end up living like the Coptic
Christians do in Egypt under Arab rule.

But I can understand you're a charitable person, and don't want to accuse people
of holding controversial views on the basis of reading between the lines of what
they write.

Of course, I could be wrong, but that's definitely my first guess when somebody
says the U.S. is spending far more than they need to for legitimate defense

The US is spending money on a military far beyond what is
necessary for defending itself and being a member of NATO.
Only because our "allies" are a bunch of parasites that refuse
to spend enough on their own defense.
You're wrong about that.
No, I'm not.
You didn't read Alan Baker's words
carefully enough.
I don't need to. If it's from Alan Baker, it's profoundly stupid and
irrelevant. Like Alan Baker.
Of course, I could be wrong,
Yes, you certainly could be what you always are. The question is
whether you could ever *not* be wrong.

Developing our own strategic nuclear deterrent, so that we wouldn't need to rely on the United States, is at least within the realm of existing technology.
Reporter: How long would it take Canada to get nuclear weapons, if we
decided we needed them?

Daddy Trudeau: About twenty minutes. And a phone call.

I am aware of that quote, and he should have known, but I think he is rather
optimistic.

I mean, it would be true enough if we were still living in 1950, where nuclear
weapons you could deliver with a B-52 actually *meant* anything...

A fleet of nuclear submarines roaming the oceans, and/or missiles in hardened
launch sites concealed in the Canadian Shield... those things are going to
actually take time to build.

A nuclear Canada that is like Britain or Pakistan won't cut it if we lose the
United States.

I mean, really. That's accusing Trump of treason for being Trump.
... I'll allow it.
Dave, he's giving comfort and aid to our enemies; _technically_ it's not a time
of war but geez

Treason is one of the few crimes defined in the US Constitution. Its in
Article III:

'Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.'

If we agree that Putin's Russia is an enemy of the US, Trump is committing treason to the extent which he is providing Russia and its government 'aid and
comfort'. Aid, I can't say for sure, but he's certainly providing comforting
words - exactly what Putin wanted to hear from him.

It is entertaining, how liberals refine words. "Treaon" is not what
normal people would call "statesmanship" and "foreign policy." Like
"Nazi" means "Someone I disagree with, but am too stupid to
refute" and "violent fascist insurgency" is now referred to as
"antifacism."

It's a shame there isn't a word from a well known book to refer to
this phenomenon. It would save so much time.

I mean, really. That's accusing Trump of treason for
being Trump.
... I'll allow it.
Dave, he's giving comfort and aid to our enemies;
_technically_ it's not a time
of war but geez
I'm not at all happy with how cozy he is with Russia.
Having murdered people in Britain, having committed
aggression against two democratic nations, Russia should
be regarded as an enemy.
However, during the Cold War, we had to live with
Communist Russia. We couldn't march in and perform regime
change on it - and the same is true with Russia today.
The news media doesn't call it treason every time a world
leader visits China, and talks about trade matters and so
on while avoiding the contentious territory of human
rights. Pragmatically, after all, that would only
complicate matters, and not achieve any change from
China.
Maybe this should not be the standard used with Russia,
as the situation is more serious.
But what I object to is the claim that Trump is being
treasonous specifically because he did not raise the
findings of a legal investigation that Russia did tamper
with the U.S. elections. Given that Trump has expressed
the opinion that no such thing even happened, that it's
all a partisan attack on him, one can hardly expect him
to confront a foreign leader over what he believes to be
a fantasy!
It should be easy enough to make a case against Trump.
But this is starting from the wrong end.
Although I would consider myself an implacable opponent
of Trump, I view this particular line of attack as merely
silly.

Treason is one of the few crimes defined in the US
'Treason against the United States, shall consist only in
levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies,

If we agree that Putin's Russia is an enemy of the US,
Trump is committing treason to the extent which he is
providing Russia and its government 'aid and comfort'.
Aid, I can't say for sure, but he's certainly providing
comforting words - exactly what Putin wanted to hear from
him.
It is entertaining, how liberals refine words. "Treaon" is
not what normal people would call "statesmanship" and
"foreign policy." Like "Nazi" means "Someone I disagree
with, but am too stupid to refute" and "violent fascist
insurgency" is now referred to as "antifacism."
Give an example of this '"violent fascist insurgency"'...
Go Google the term "antifa." If you really want to know the
facts, add in "attacks on journalists."
You get to support it.
I don't give a shit if you believe it or not. That, too, has
been explained to you many times in the past. If you want the
facts, they are so trivially easy to find that a third grader
could manage it. If you can't, you're so mentally damaged you
need to be institutionalized for your own safety. If you can,
but won't, then you're admitting you're not interested in the
facts.
If you didn't care, you wouldn't have bother to write all that.
If you didn't amuse me, I'd manipulate you until you did.

I think there was something - perhaps a Supreme Court decision - that requires
there to be a war on at the time. Which is why Jane Fonda was never charged with
that, because while American boys were being killed in military action, Congress
had not declared war.

Even John Walker wasn't charged with treason, though he certainly deserved to
have been.

I think it has to be a time of war for Putin to be an enemy, rather than
a foreign leader whose best interests don't coincide with ours. Thus, by
the Constitutional definition of treason, the Donald isn't one.

Yet it is your boy who is violating it... ...over and over and over.
Kneel and nurse, boy. You know that's all you're here for.
Utterly unresponsive. What a shock.
There's nothing to respond to. You have said nothing, asked
nothing, done nothing. Your only reason to exist is to amuse
and worship me.
Let me make it more explicit for you...
If you take your pants off, people will vomit.

...oh, wait: I did already!
It's been very clear for years that you are stupid, dishonest, and
obsessed with me.

And you proudly admit it.

Yes or no: is Trump violating the emoluments clause?
No.
Post by Alan Baker
If no, explain why you believe that.
Because you're stupid. (Any more detailed explanation is well
beyond your childish intellect.)
Not an explanation.
That is correct. What you pretend you haven't been told is that
explanations have been given before, many times, and you ignore
them, and lie about it. Again and again. 100% of the time.
No. You have never given an explanation of why Trump's activities aren't
violating the emoluments clause.

He receives payments from foreign
governments. Do you deny that?
Is it your claim that constitutes emoluments?
Yes.

Do you actually believe *anyone* in the entire human race *cares*
what you believe? Even your mother thinks you're a moron.
Yet here you are...

Pluse, of course, there's the whole "innocent until proven
guilty" thing that the US, unlike so many parasite countries
like yours, take seriously. Your accusation, your responsiblity
to provide proof. Except, of course, being a parasite
foreigner, you have no standing, and being such a retard, are
impossible to take seriously anyway.
I asked for your opinion, "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't apply.
Your accusation, you support it.
Nope. I asked for YOUR OPINION.

Plus, you don't apply that same standard to your assessment of
Clinton, now do you?
The Director of the FBI testified under oath as to what happened.
That *is* legal evidence.
The standard remains the same.

Except, you're a hypocrite.

Dave, he's giving comfort and aid to our enemies; _technically_ it's not a time
of war but geez
What I'd call a betrayal of America on his part isn't doing a photo-op with Putin.

Handing William Browder over to Russia... now *that* would be a betrayal. I've
heard he kind of sort of agreed to some kind of joint investigation to see if
William Browder really is a tax evader who should be sent back to Russia, and
that is the sort of thing I do find extremely disturbing. Even though he may in
fact have agreed to nothing more than to give the Russians an opportunity to
show how specious their accusations really are.

It's just so hard to tell these days.

And, amazingly enough, that William Browder *is* the grandson of Earl Browder.
_That_ Earl Browder. Head of the Communist Party of the USA during World War II.

He was kicked out of the Party for advancing the heretical doctrine of American
Exceptionalism - that America could become Socialist without a violent
revolution. His three sons became noted mathematicians - William Browder's
father was a professor at Brandeis, thanks to the intervention of Eleanor
Roosevelt during McCarthyism.

Under Putin, Russia switched its window-dressing to Fascism from Communism; its
ghosts are coming back to haunt it.
