Reportedly, Jim Holden is intended as an example of how
annoying lawful good paladins would be in real life.

"Paladin" is a good word. It sounds more up-market than either
"vigilante" or {shudder} "drunks with guns."

Thank you,

Holden is the worst kind of extremist, the idealist who really, truly
believes in what he's shoveling. That's he's fundamentally correct
only makes it worse.

(The resemblance to a roleplaying game isn't exactly coincidental,
since the world building started off as background for a computer
roleplaying game. And, of course, they just finished a Kickstarter
for an *actual* roleplaying with, at over $400,000.)
