I've been avoiding doing so, but they're going to have
'Foundation', and have already run an alt-hist series with Russia
winning the Moon Race.

I'm going to resist. If _Foundation_ turns out to be really
really good, people here will tell me, and I'll buy the DVDs.
Eventually.

I don't know if those stores specialise in home

one this month, are from British supermarkets

CostCo is a 'warehouse store'. Carries pretty much everything,
from food (in very large packages) through electronics. Requires
membership to shop there.

Target is sort a nicer version of Walmart - think 'Walmart for the
middle class'. As such, it also carries pretty much everything.

I haven't seen a TV with a built-in DVD player for years. Most here
are now wafer thin flatscreens, without a place to fit one.

Walmart lists a few in sizes up to 40". None available in my local
store though. Best Buy the same. Costco doesn't list any.

If you say so.

I'm surprised the DVD market didn't "go away" years ago.

And yet there are very few films I've had to purchase on BD because
that was all I could find -- on Amazon.

As opposed to "bought on BD because the DVD cost more", which are also
pretty rare -- on Amazon.

That said, during the Great Heat Bubble I realized that a subscription
to a streaming service, one allowing me to just select and watch
without making an explicit purchase, would have been /most/ handy.

It's probably cheaper to pay for a month of Apple TV+ than to buy a

You don't. They eventually will detect that you are no longer watching
and shut down your channel. Or, if you actually logout (I have never
done that since I use Roku boxes). Or if you turn off your device and
they can no longer talk to it.

Streaming is an all you can eat for a month. All of mine are three user
(Netflix is four user since they go 1, 2, 4) since we have three Roku boxes.

Uh, NO. You have to cancel your subscription or they will just keep
charging whatever card you gave them every month. Note that cancelling
your subscription does NOT bar you from re-subscribing. There are a
number regulars on rec.arts.tv who routinely cycle thru various
streaming services by subscribing to one for a month, cancelling that
and subscribing to another for a month, rinse and repeat.

Sounds WAY too complicated. Fortunately, I don't know how to
subscribe to them in the first place, so I needn't worry about
learning to cancel them.

You don't need to worry about any of that, since your daughter does the

I expect).

"Hanks is the survivor of an apocalypse with his trusty dog and robot in
this Apple TV+ film from director Miguel Sapochnik."
I may have to get an Apple TV subscription after all.
I've been avoiding doing so, but they're going to have
'Foundation', and have already run an alt-hist series with Russia
winning the Moon Race.
I'm going to resist.  If _Foundation_ turns out to be really
really good, people here will tell me, and I'll buy the DVDs.
Eventually.
Many streaming shows will never be available on disc.
Then I'll never see it.  I can read the books.
It's probably cheaper to pay for a month of Apple TV+ than to buy a
disk.
But then how do you turn it off?  My daughter subscribes to
several streams, and has shared her logins with me, but I hardly
ever look at them.
You don't.  They eventually will detect that you are no longer watching
and shut down your channel.  Or, if you actually logout (I have never
done that since I use Roku boxes).  Or if you turn off your device and
they can no longer talk to it.
The ones on Amazon all seem to offer "one month free".

Do they limit the "one month free" if you "rinse and repeat" often
enough?

They have very long memories with my experience.

This sounds like a prime opportunity for automation. Or for a business that
will do the automation and thereby handle the subscribing/unsubscribing
every month for its customers.

I count 4 clicks from the main screen to "cancel subscription".

Foundation is extremely unlikely to be one of them.

I can't tell if you are saying 'Foundation' will or will not be
available on disc.

We already have Netflix (I am a stockholder), Amazon Prime (I am a
stockholder), Hulu, Disney+, and Fubo TV. I hate to add another service.

I think I picked up, and mentioned, in previous
coverage at Tor.com, and referring as well to
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finch_(film)>

"Caleb Landry Jones as Jeff, a robot created by
Finch" - by courtesy of "motion capture". Like Gollum.

But what excites me is that it makes this show
_Mutt and Jeff_.

It'll be all over the naughty web within seconds of its official

One of the lo-cal TV news stations ran the trailer and pointed out that
in one scene Hanks is wearing a shirt with the logo of our hockey team.
Go Blues!
