. One section that talks about numerical discrepancies says:

"There are, you know, there are two actual mistakes of substance in the,
in the, in the stats that are, that are, that are currently published.
But as soon as the blow up happened, my considerate opinion was, me
correcting them and saying why they, why they needed to be corrected and
putting that out in public would not have reduced hysteria, you know? I
don't think, I don't think any statement from me would have been, would
have been believed."

and then:

"The SQL query from the data for the ballot counts in each category
actually has a fucking flaw in it. It's a mistake and it reported low
across the board. So, the places where, the places where people are
rightfully yelling, there's more points in round nine than there are
ballots cast in the thing. They're right. There are more points in round
nine, because that's not a number that I ever had time to check in the
process because at the end of the day, how many ballots are in each
category isn't material to, did we count things correctly? So, I never
double checked it. Um, you know, because I didn't have enough assistance
and, you know, Joe and I are doing stuff and Joe's learning on the job
while we're doing stuff."

As far as the "not eligible" rulings go, McCarty said (in my words, he
went on at great length) that there was no presence or pressure from
the government; the only contact was the city mayor who only did the
expected WorldCon mayor things. But the very different from ours
group culture of China (which could be said to be supported by the
government) did not allow the nominations that got rejected.

I'm going to say "eww, AI", without looking.
However, a straight transcript apparently
needs a new (?) discreet punctuation to show,
"These words were said two/three/four times
but they should only appear once." And I wonder
if that's what happened to the SQL programming.

There comes to mind - for two singers:
<https://www.dmi.me.uk/music/lyrics/misc/-/bold-sir-john/>
This was on _The Two Ronnies_ in the 1970s
but I think the fourth verse in italics
wasn't. The whole /may/ imply sexual violence.
Besides, the verbal vulgarity is British -
I want to say English.

This is the one that goes:

Oh! bold Sir John was young and fair,
And bold Sir John was gay.
He said, "I'll tread the morning dew,
To take the air and listen to
The twittering of the birds all day,
The bumblebees at play,
The twit, the twit, the twit, the twit, the twittering of the birds all day,
The bum, the bum, the bum, the bum, the bumblebees at play."

So, "China" (whether the CCP, the ConCom, or both) exercised
censorship of what works and writers met their preferences,
in spite of nominations by fandom as a whole, Chinese or not.

Which is what a lot of people (including me) have been assuming
all along.

I think most of us can agree that's not how the Hugos ought to
be selected.

I once participated in the technical interview process for a person like
that.

An offer was not extended.
