In post-apocalyptic works, names are often given that are degenerate
versions of current names. For instance, "Ylvania Stat" in Nelson
Bond's "Magic City".

I've often wondered if "Waknuk" is one of these. I spent an hour once,
trawling over a zoomed-in Google Map, trying to find a plausible
antecedent, without success.

Does anybody have any idea of a Labradorian city/village/town that
could fit the bill?

A preposition is something you should never end a sentence with.

A few internet sources claim that "Waknuk" is the inland southwestern
Labrador village of Wabush. Since the lettering and (presumed)
pronunciations are pretty different, I also looked (without success) for
an explanation for why Wyndham mutated Wabush to "Waknuk".
