Are you sure about that ? Maybe for your longitude but not mine ???

Here, tomorrow's daylight will be 19 seconds shorter than today. This
does not change until the winter solstice on Dec 21.

It's certainly true for my longitude/latitude! Yes, the days are
absolutely getting shorter until the solstice. However, sunsets are
getting just a little bit later already. That's due to the tilt of the
earth and the non-circular earth orbit.

There's a couple of weeks difference between the earliest sunset and
the solstice every year. Eg:

True, but sunsets will come later.

Sunset in Houston (https://sunrise-sunset.org/us/houston-tx)

Dec 14 5:25:15 pm

Dec 15 5:25:36 pm

Rejoice in your extra 21 seconds in the afternoon (who cares about
morning?).

This
does not change until the winter solstice on Dec 21.

In the run-up to winter solstice in our hemisphere sunsets start to get
later in early december. The days still get shorter because dawn comes
later.

Dawn will not start coming earlier until circa Jan 11 for Houston.

If the earth's orbit was circular we wouldn't have these issues.

Gotcha on the dawn and sunset both getting later in the day right now.
If I knew that, I had forgotten it.

I blame the Moon for the Earth's non-circular orbit.

If I get much further south, I will be treading water.

BTW, the days in the summer are too long.

Maybe you can find a confortable spot on
the Equator, depending on your latitude may have
move East and South. Look for that Equitorial
line on any globe and pick a spot.

Brings to mind the day I came to work on a cold January day
in Maryland, USA. A co-worker remarked in a tone of amazement
"here it is the middle of winter and the days are already
getting longer." My mind blanked out on exactly what he could
have meant so I mumbled, "Well yes, after December 21 the days
always get longer." This conversation took place at a NASA site
where I was employed at the time.

Trump has uttered something about abolising
DST. Whether that comes to anything only
time will tell; he's not exactly a reliable
narrator.

I'd prefer that over the other proposal,
to make DST permanent year round.

Hear me out: Double Daylight time starting in October. Forget about
the kids going to school in the dark -- they need their own
both-ways-up-hill-in-the-snow story.

Abolishing DST might be the highlight of his second admininstration.
He'll need one to offset all the disasters his minions appear to be
planning to unleash.
