the spammer is still kicking spam. The latest one that I saw, briefly, before
I nuked it, had a 06:11, my time, timestamp. I’m posting at 06:16.

I suspect that the spammer will continue right until Google pulls the plug.

Agreed - still spamming strong at 10:47am EST.

I have been wondering what Feb 22 actually means - since Google is based
in California, is it 8am their time? midnight their time? Pull (virtual)
ping pong balls out of a (virtual) hat until they pull the ball that
says stop now?

Tony
Well, Google pulled the plug. No more spam deluge, at least until he gets a
new service.

What did he think that he was achieving? No-one could read his spams,
everyone just killed them on sight, it was at most a minor inconvenience.

They were ads that that person was getting paid 0.1 cents per ad sent?

Junk snail mail is considered successful if it gets a 1% response rate.
2% is wildly successful and snail mail costs. What costs are there for
internet spam?

Not that much to set up a bot that pumps out the contents of a text file.

Ahh, but someone has to update the text file! Check on positive answers
etc.

I just did a translation of the last spam posted. It was in Thai, and
claimed to be advertising a sport betting web site.

I did not click on any of the links, which were all obfuscated through
bit.ly.

I suspect they were attempts at SEO.
