Ten Classic Books I Read as a Teen That Still Hold Up

Sometimes older books are visited by the Suck Fairy--but not all! Here
are ten that stand the test of time.

I don't remember noticing the Suck Fairy in books that I have reread
decades later. Perhaps it is because I know how old those books are when
I read them (that would also apply when reading old books the first
time).

You can read them now. Well, maybe not The Beehive, but the others.

Huh. I had no idea that the Romy Schneider movie _La Mort en direct_
was based on a novel.

Hm. I haven't read many of these.

I'm sure I've read "Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen", but I recall
nothing about it. I generally like Piper, though.

I read "Of Mist and Grass and Sand" back in Analog way back
when. It kind of left me cold -- decent enough story, but
I just could not suspend disbelief in the technology.

The June 1977 Analog I read. "Eyes of Amber" doesn't stick
with me, but I hated "The Screwfly Solution" about an order
of magnitude more than the computer in that infamous Harlan
Ellison story hated humans.

Lots and lots of good stuff in Spider Robinson's "The Best
of All Possible Worlds". This was my introduction to
"The Princess Bride"; the "Duel on the Clifs of Insanity".

The rest I haven't read.
