The current strip, whose permanent link I believe to be

http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff4100/fc04060.htm

has Florence speaking of a "rubber duck", the sort of yellow plastic
floating toy common in the bath in North America, as something one
talks to, when an answer is not expected.

This reminded me of the song from which I learned that in France, it's
usually a red plastic fish that plays this role (un poisson rouge)...

Ed Sullivan thought that Elvis Presley's hips were too sexy for
television. This young lady has them beat...

And that explains why that page didn't contain a link to the permalink
- unlike some webcomic sites, the page isn't at the permalink even
when it's today's page and visible from the today's page page. I
should have checked.

It's there now.

I read this strip opened a couple of pages behind
the latest, so that I can click "next" to navigate
to or from a "New" page by number. If I'm one page
behind, then "Next" means "Latest page", which
doesn't work when I want it to be "The new one page
behind".

Rubber ducking is based on the common experience that talking to
somebody about your code helps you to see why it's not working
Various people find that talking to a rubber duck works as well as
talking to a person about it
