Oh come on !

BTW, I use the common rule of 2.54 cm to 1 inch.

Back when I was running (well, jogging, mostly, anyway), I used the
5:3 rule myself.

Shouldn't that be 5:2?

Per a calculator provided by Bing,

5KM = 3.10685596Miles

so, no, 5:3 is correct.

Depending, of course, on your definition of "mile".

Per a calculator provided by Bing,=20
5KM =3D 3.10685596Miles
so, no, 5:3 is correct.
Rough approximation, 100km = 60miles, so 10:6 or 5:3.
Another rough approximation, five centimeters is about 2 inches (5:2).

Either side of the middle...

5:2 is close to the centimeter/inch ratio

1 statute mile (by definition) is exactly 1609.344 meters. Thus, 1
meter per second is approximately sqrt(5) miles per hour.

The survey mile was based on the old definition of the foot, which
(confusingly) sets 12 meters at exactly 39.37 feet.

(Note that both of these definitions use the meter as the base!)

The usual rule-of-thumb conversion is that 5 mi ~= 8 km, which is good
enough to two significant figures. (You'll note that 8/5 is exactly
1.6, which is 0.58% too small.)

Ah, I didn't realize you were not talking about a cm to inch conversion.
