From an article about Nancy Pelosi's possible visit to Taiwan, I learned about
the incident reported here:

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/05/australia-says-a-chinese-fighter-jet-intercepted-its-surveillance-craft-in-may.html

I'm surprised it did not make headlines at the time, like the time an
American aircraft over international waters was forced to land in China,
enabling the Chinese to study the airplane.

"Dangerously intercepted" and "attacked" are NOT synonyms.
Metal chaff was released, which entered into the engines of
the Australian aircraft, presumably causing expensive damage.

That is an attack.

Was that the one where the Chinese fighter "played chicken" with the
American plane and inadvertently (at least the American pilot thought
it was inadvertent though negligent flying) did minor damage and
caused the US plane to land in China (as the nearest point of land)?

It did make headlines at the time, that's why there's an article from
2022 about it...
