Is there a sequel to Earth Abides?

Earth Abides is, of course, George Stewart's 1949 classic about a post-plague
Earth.

My wife recently picked it up. She was prompted to do so when she saw a book
that proclaimed itself the sequel to Earth Abides, and figured "I'd better
start with the original." Now she's read Earth Abides, but no amount of
Googling will turn up any info on a sequel.

So is there a sequel? Am I an incompetent Googler, or did she just halucinate
the sequel? And if there is a sequel, what's it called and who wrote it?

_Earth Abides_ is a stand alone book. There were no sequels

George R Stewart died in 1980. He wrote several other books, but no other sf,
and afaik nothing else that holds a candle to _Earth Abides_

I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of a sequel. At times, I think the theme
deserves a trilogy at least, but other times I feel Stewart kept it the right
length, and that trying to lengthen the story would have spoiled it. I
certainly feel _very_ uneasy at the idea of anyone else trying to do a sequel

No to both.

More likely some publisher or other did put something like that on a front
cover. But he wasn't under oath and my guess is your wife probably hasn't
missed much

I'm pretty sure I've seen at least one book with cover copy plugging
itself as the 'successor to Earth Abides' or some such. That's probably
what she is thinking of.

So, not a sequel, but a similar plot, maybe a different ending?

If I was online, I'd try Google on "successor".
