Fortunately, this instrumental song

was in a playlist of the best British TV themes of all time (it was
the theme to the children's show Vision On) or I think it would have
been very hard for me to find it again!

Ironically, 'Vision On' was a show aimed at deaf children.

True, but I think there was some intention to have hearing and deaf
children both watch it, to build bridges.

When I first looked for this song, I looked at the oeuvre of the
musical group The Left Banke. The only thing I saw there that I
remembered was "Walk Away, Renee", which certainly wasn't what I was
looking for.

However, when I found what I want, and searched further for the best
version, the mystery of why my foggy memory sent me in that direction
was also solved.

Another piece of theme music from Vision On is also fondly remembered:
the "Gallery Theme". This was originally by the musical group the
Noveltones, and it's name was... Left Bank Two.
