They didn't blink at a massively powerful AI like Station, but the
thought of The Director even knowing who they were TERRIFIED them.

Intriguing...

Perhaps it's a matter of wounded pride: Yay was always bragging about
being able to listen in/compromise any network without being
detected. Then the Director said: "I noticed you poking around in my
network", or words to that effect.

I guess yes, it hurt their self-image as this all=powerful AI.
Hmm, a bit fragile then.

Perhaps an encounter with "O wad some Power the giftie gie us / To see
oursels as ithers see us!" would have helped her adopt a more
realistic self-image.

I expect we'll see Yay again.

I think her shock is not only that she was detected, and that
she didn't know she was detected, but also that the Director
didn't even see her as a threat that needed to be countered.

Being spooky, and seeming an incalculable threat was sort of
her thing.

I find a firm "No, but thanks for asking" to be very effective.

When it's not, feel free to become more ... explicit ... or even
summon a policeman.

I mis-spoke. I should have said "Most of the people who annoy me are
trying to help."
